【摘要】:TheED50testprovidesanestimateoftheamountofrepellentthatmustbeappliedtotheskintoproduceagivenlevelofeffectivenessagainstthemosquitotestpopulation.Thelevelsofeffectivenessthatareusuallyofinterestarethe50%level(forcomparativepurposes)andthe95%level(forpracticalpurposes).TheED50testmethodisusedtodeterminetheeffectivenessofarepellentagainstdifferentkindsofmosquitoesortocomparetheeffectivenessofdifferentrepellentsagainstanyparticularkindofmosquito.Itmayalsobeusedtoestablishthedosagesneededtoprovideprotectionunderspecialconditionsofclimate,weather,activity,etc.1.1Thesetestmethodsapplytorepellentcompoundsandformulationsthatcanbeappropriatelydilutedwithethanol,acetone,orasimilarinertcarrierfortestpurposes.Thetestmethodsdescribedarenotsuitablefortestingpowders,sticksorothersolidformulations,orfortestingthixotropicorotherfluidswhosephysicalpropertieswouldbemodifiedbydilution.1.2Thesetestmethodsaredesignedandintendedforuseasaresearchstandardtodevelopdataontheefficacyofrepellentsappliedtotheskinofhumansagainstlaboratory-rearedorfield-collectedmosquitoes.Theuseofthesetestmethodswillprovideforthedevelopmentofadatabasewherebyallinvestigatorsgeneratecomparabledata.Modificationsoftheequipmentorprocedures,orboth,maybeneededfortestsagainstotherkindsofbitingarthropods.1.3Thetestmethodsareintendedforuseintestingmaterialsthatareinanadvancedstageofdevelopment,forwhichhuman-usetrialscanbefullyjustifiedonscientificandethicalgrounds.Thetestmethodsarenotdesignedforthetestingofcommercialformulationswhereregistrationoradvertisingclaimsdataarerequired.1.3.1Arepellentshouldnotbeconsideredfortestingonhumansbeforeitsefficacyhasbeendemonstratedininvitro,animal,orothernonhumantestsystems.1.3.2Arepellentshouldnotbeappliedtotheskinbeforeitssafetyhasbeenestablishedinappropriatetoxicologicaltestsonanimalsorothertestorganisms.1.3.3Norepellentshouldbetestedonhumanswithoutthewrittenconsentofthetestsubjectsandpriorapprovalofcompetentauthority,asdesignatedintheapplicablelawsandregulationsgoverningexperimentationonhumans.1.4Thevaluesstatedininch-poundunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
